Poem for Everyman"
I will present you parts of myself slowly if you are patient and tender. I will open drawers that mostly stay closed and bring out places and people and things, sounds and smells, loves and frustrations, hopes and sadnesses, bits and pieces of three decades of life, that have been grabbed off in chunks, and found lying in my hands, that have eaten their way into my memory,
carved their way into my heart, altogether - you or I will never see them - they are me.
If you regard them lightly, Deny that they are important, Or worse, judge them, I will quietly, slowly, Begin to wrap them up, In small pieces of velvet, Like worn silver and gold jewelry, Tuck them away In a small wooden chest of drawers, And close. (John Wood 1974)
Well, a thirty-something Brighton belle! Born there, didn't actually live there until I was 12 (wondered about as an army 'brat' until then!). Getting to one of the most exciting experiences in my life - at the age of 16 I became a christian! Went from being passionate about ice hockey and working for the foreign office to someone who realised that God's plans and purposes for my life, so he promises, are to prosper me and not to harm me. Have seen that these past years! Have had some of the best, and toughests, times of my life since meeting him! Love: Walking, swimming, being outdoors, drinking a cold pint of guiness, active in local church, gym. Interests: God, the sea, forests, nature, animals, ice hockey, Canada, England, people watching, ice cream, good eating & catching up with family & friends, theatre, walking, swimming, having fun, watching films, dogs, horses, being outdoors
Favorite Music: Most things, whole jumble of taste ... country & western ... pop ... some soul/blues ... fantastic worship ... some hip hop ... jazz ... rock ... told you it was a random collection! Guess I listen more to some of the following bods or groups: phatfish, hillsongs, matt redman, paul oakley, tim hughes, robbie williams, U2, UB40, Shania Twain, Black Eyed Peas, Annie Lennox, stuart townend ...
Favorite TV Shows: CSI, House, Gray's Anatomy, Cold Case, Bones, New Tricks, basically your forensic sciences, crime, with some other stuff chucked in. Stay away from the soaps apart from the occasional dive into Home & Away (for the scenery) ...
Favorite Movies: Love movies, as long as they've a good story and aren't 'twee' or too 'soppy' Action, adventure, thriller, war, some kids, vere away from horror ... so from Fast & Furious to I, Robot to Robots ... Ice Age 1/2, Wallace & Grommit for sure ... Die Hard series, love some of the stuff that Sandra Bullock, Mel Gibson, Julia Roberts, Steven Segal, Nicholas Cage, Jackie Chan has done ... Blue Streak, Big Mommas House, Turner & Hooch, A Bridge Too Far, Matrix Series, Star Wars, Star Trek, Italian Job 1/2, Oceans 11, Memphis Belle, A Knights Tale, Under Siege, Bourne series, Leathal Weapon series, Antz, Toy Story ...
Favorite Books: Don't get me started ... too many full bookcases ranging from autobiographies of some of the greatest preachers/evangelists/pioneers throughout history to authors such as John Grisham, Patricia Cornwall, Colin Forbes, Sue Grafton ... The best stories, whether you like adventure, romance, horror, sci-fi, inspirational, directional - that can all be found in the bible, my best reading!
