I am finding this humorous to say the least. I have read a ton of the local profiles out here (or it feels like it any way), and I keep running across the same concept (just phrased slightly different from time to time) that most of the ladies out here want to know if there are any "good ones" left. I am not exactly sure what your definition of a "good one" is and I am definitely not going to sit here and tell you that I am one of them. What I will tell you is I believe to be a man after God's own heart. The Lord showed me who His Son is over eight years ago and since then he has placed a passion and a fire in my heart for the poor and the fatherless.
I am country boy that grew up in the backwoods of SC and I have not always walked down the right roads or even any easy roads. But I have come to the realization that He allowed me to walk down those roads and will use those experiences to glorifying His name and advance His kingdom. I spent time in the United States Marine Corps where I began to see the world from a new perspective - that the road we are on is not the road we have to stay on. As the slogan goes, "the change is forever".
To quote someone whom once introduced me to someone else newer to the church I attended than I was at time, I am a "tattooed, Marine Corps biker". I am also a software engineer, a musician, a children's Sunday school teacher, et al. Basically, I don't fit nice and neatly into anybody's "box". Never have, probably never will; I will most likely always keep you guessing and will be an adventure to say the least. I have fully decided that I want to ride my old scoot full throttle towards the gates of heaven, slam the brakes, come sliding in sideways, see Jesus and shout “Yeah!! What a ride!” and hear the words I long to hear “well done, good and faithful servant”.
Now, before I get asked let me go ahead and address it: all the hair. The beard started as joke with a fu manchu (if you can believe that) and after having it about a year, I was, frankly, impressed with how long it got and became curious to know how long would it actually grow. So with some trial and error, I settled on the goatee about two years ago and have let it go since.
The rest of it, well, I would much rather prefer a flat top but try finding someone that can do a flat top without jacking it up (yes, people, it is a lot harder to do than it looks). My last haircut left me with a cue ball look because it was jacked up so bad and I decided I was going to break with the haircuts for a little while. Then one of my co-workers suggested that I grow my hair to donate to Locks of Love and I liked that idea so here we are.
In fact I am already thinking of maybe holding an auction to see who gets the privledge of cutting the hair off (including the beard and I already know at least twenty people chomping on the bit for that gig) with the money going to charity. It going to be interesting to see how that works out.
Am I one of the "good ones" left? I'll leave that to you to decide.
